WTF is the agentic internet?: A person asks an AI to find, compare or do something. The agent visits websites for them and returns the result.

The person may never open those websites.

Search for the best laptop under Rs 80,000 for video editing.

Open Google. Read a review. Open three more tabs. Compare the specifications. Return to the first review and click its buying link.

Now ask an AI the same question.

It reads the reviews, compares the machines and recommends one. You get the answer without meeting the people whose work produced it.

The websites were visited. The humans were not.

Cloudflare reported in July that more than half of internet traffic is now non-human. That figure covers ordinary crawlers, scrapers and other bots alongside AI agents. Software already consumes a huge part of what websites serve.

โญToday's Shortcut

Build for two visitors.

Give the agent clean facts it can understand and cite.

Give the human a reason to come to you directly.

Then decide which automated visitors are allowed to use which parts of your work.

The old internet paid with attention

The deal behind search was simple:

โ

We let you crawl our pages. You send people back.

Those visits funded websites through advertisements, affiliate links, subscriptions and sales.

Google sat between the question and the answer, but its click usually took the person to the source. AI search can finish the job inside that middle layer.

A July 2026 research paper analysed US desktop browsing and found that ChatGPT produced an outbound click in only 5.2% of conversation sessions. Wider ChatGPT Search access also reduced traditional search use by 9.4%, with the largest referral losses hitting informational websites.

The content was useful enough to answer the question. It was not always useful enough to earn the visit.

The agent becomes the customer interface

An agent can compare hotel rooms, check return policies, shortlist products or complete a purchase. It decides which websites to consult and what information reaches the person.

Shopify says AI-referred orders on its platform grew nearly 13 times year over year in the first quarter of 2026. It defines agentic commerce as agents discovering, evaluating and sometimes completing purchases without requiring the shopper to browse the store. Its guidance also warns that an agent may skip a product when its price, stock, variants or policies are difficult to understand.

For some tasks, the website becomes the place an agent checks rather than the place a person visits.

Cloudflare is drawing a line between bots

Blocking every bot would also block discovery. Allowing every bot gives away control.

Cloudflare now separates automated traffic by purpose:

  • Search indexes content and is expected to return discovery.

  • Agent visits while completing a task for a person.

  • Training collects material to train or fine-tune a model.

From September 15, 2026, Cloudflare says affected new domains will allow Search by default while blocking Agent and Training traffic on pages with ads. Owners can change the settings. Cloudflare's explanation is blunt: an ad means the owner intended a person to land there.

An agent that takes the answer and removes the visit breaks that business model.

Decide what each visitor gets

Do not treat every page on your website the same.

Make facts easy for agents to read

Keep prices, dates, product details, policies, authorship and source links clear and current.

If an agent cannot verify the information, it may ignore you or describe you incorrectly.

Keep a reason for humans to visit

A summary can replace a generic explanation. It cannot fully replace original reporting, a useful calculator, personal advice, live support, a trusted community or a product the reader needs to use.

Your public pages can help an agent discover you. Your direct relationship should give the person something the agent cannot carry away in one answer.

Choose the deal before allowing the bot

Ask three questions:

  1. Why is this bot accessing the page?

  2. What value comes back: discovery, attribution, payment or a customer?

  3. Which content would I still publish if no human ever visited it?

The answer may differ across a free guide, a product catalogue, a paid report and a community page.

Why this is real

Search referrals are already weakening. Chartbeat data reported by Axios showed a 60% decline over two years for small publishers, compared with 47% for medium publishers and 22% for large ones. AI referrals were growing but did not replace the lost search traffic.

The evidence does not prove that websites or human browsing will disappear.

It shows that the old crawl-for-click deal can no longer be assumed.

Now go and built something great!

7 External Traffic Strategies. One question finally answered.

What actually moved your BSR?

Most eCommerce brands running external traffic can't answer that. Wrong channels, no real attribution, and at the end of the month, a dashboard full of activity and no proof of what drove revenue.

The brands getting it right aren't spending more. They've just stopped guessing.

They know which channels pull weight on Amazon listings, which ones look good in a report but bleed budget, and why creator and affiliate traffic consistently outperform paid social when it's set up correctly.

Levanta's free playbook breaks down all 7 strategies. Where each one works, where it falls apart, and what it takes to scale without it becoming a second job. If you're serious about moving your BSR without living inside PPC, this is worth 5 minutes.
