Imagine asking an AI to find a phone under ₹25,000 and having the order ready for your approval.

I'd find that useful, especially if it saved me an evening of comparing almost identical phones.

But I'd still want to know why it picked that one.

Three recent developments make that question worth paying attention to. Google is testing shopping inside its AI interface. Grok Bot has announced financial-account connections. And a company called Baselayer is building checks for software that acts on someone else's behalf. Shopping report · Grok announcement archive · Baselayer

Read together, they suggest AI companies are working towards a much bigger role in our purchases.

⭐Today's Shortcut

The shopping conversation gets a checkout

Google is testing Flipkart checkout in Gemini and AI Mode for selected Indian users. TechCrunch

Google's own marketing material describes a broader plan for shopping through AI and names Flipkart as a partner in India. It presents this as a way to help shoppers and grow sales for brands. Google

That combination interests me. An assistant could save you the trouble of comparing prices and checking whether a phone has the camera you need. It could also become the place where a retailer wins or loses your purchase.

If you accept its first recommendation and move straight to payment, the reasons behind that recommendation matter a lot. I'd want to see which alternatives it considered and whether any commercial relationship influenced the result.

Your spending history enters the conversation

On September 26, Grok Bot announced a Finance integration for linking bank, card and investment accounts, with help for spending and investments. The announcement doesn't establish that Bot can transfer your money or make purchases automatically. Announcement archive

Financial information could make an assistant more useful. For example, with the right access, it could help you compare a planned purchase with your actual monthly spending. That's a possible use of the information, not a claim that these separate products already work together.

These announcements put assistants closer to the information and services involved in a purchase.

Asking one to recommend a phone is a fairly small act of trust. Letting it read your accounts deserves a separate decision.

Someone has to check the permission

Baselayer announced a $35 million funding round on September 22 alongside tools for verifying AI agents. Its stated purpose includes checking whom an agent represents and whether it is authorised to act. Company announcement

Consider that ₹25,000 phone again. A future shopping agent might arrive at a merchant with an order. The merchant needs a way to establish that you authorised the purchase and that the request stays within your permission.

Verifying that permission still wouldn't tell you whether the phone was a good choice. The assistant would have to earn your trust on that separately.

Shopping inside an assistant creates a route to purchase. Financial connections can provide personal context. Identity checks address who is allowed to act for whom.

They are separate developments, but together they show the work going into making AI part of everyday transactions.

Final Thought

I'd happily let an assistant do the boring comparison work. Before giving it more control, I'd want it to show the final price, explain its choice and ask for approval.

The permission screen deserves as much attention as the product recommendation. That's where you decide how much of your wallet this convenience can reach.
