WTF is a Sponsored Agent? Basically an AI salesperson inside ChatGPT. After seeing an ad, you can choose to open a separate conversation with an AI representative of that business.

OpenAI started testing Sponsored Agents this week with selected advertisers. It’s still a limited alpha, but the idea is pretty different from normal internet ads.
Say you're looking for a sofa.
Normally:
See ad → open website → search → compare → maybe buy.
Now imagine simply asking:
“Will this fit my room?”
“Do you have something cheaper?”
“What’s the return policy?”
“Which one is better if I have a dog?”
The sponsored agent can answer those questions and then send you to the company's website when you're ready.

⭐Today's Shortcut

Ad → Conversation → Decision
For most of the internet, ads had one job:
Get the click.
Google shows you an ad when you search.
Instagram puts one between Reels.
You click it.
Then the advertiser's website has to do the hard work of convincing you.
Sponsored Agents change that middle part.
The ad itself can now sell.
Your first question, objection, comparison, follow-up.
All of that can happen before you ever leave ChatGPT.
OpenAI says these conversations are clearly labelled as sponsored and remain separate from ChatGPT's independent answers and from the conversation you originally started.
The ad doesn't have to guess your objection

A normal landing page tries to predict every question customers might have.
Shipping?
FAQ.
Refund policy?
Another page.
Will this work for me?
Maybe read 17 reviews 😭.
A Sponsored Agent can respond to the specific thing stopping you from buying.
That changes advertising from:
Show everyone the best message
to potentially:
Have the right conversation with each person.
And OpenAI is also adding AI-generated copy and imagery for advertisers.
Businesses can even opt into text customization that adapts existing headlines/descriptions to better match the context of a conversation — including automatically translating copy into a user's preferred language.
So someday you and I could technically see the same product...
but get completely different pitches.
The advertiser gets an AI too
The funny part is that AI is happening on both sides.
Advertisers can now tell ChatGPT things like:
Build a campaign from this website.
Show me why conversions dropped.
Update the campaign.
OpenAI says businesses can create, modify and analyse campaigns using natural-language prompts through its Ads Manager tools.
It's also connecting ChatGPT Ads with HubSpot and Shopify, so businesses can bring product/customer context into the advertising workflow.
So:
This could be insanely valuable for businesses
Think about how many customers leave because they can't immediately find one answer.
Does this laptop support two monitors?
Can this course help a complete beginner?
Does this hotel allow early check-in?
A normal ad can't answer.
A landing page might answer.
A good salesperson definitely can.
Now an advertisement potentially can too.
And OpenAI isn't only changing the consumer side. It's also adding AI tools for creating campaigns inside ChatGPT Work, plus integrations with Shopify and HubSpot.
Which tells you where this is heading.
Google monetized:
what you search for.
Meta monetized:
what gets your attention.
AI platforms have access to something slightly different:
the conversation happening while you're deciding.
And that's incredibly valuable commercial intent.
Sponsored Agents are tiny right now — only selected advertisers can use them.
But if the format works, ads may slowly stop being little rectangles you click...
and start becoming salespeople you talk to.
